Inspiration from various sources

What follows are a variety of quotations and comments from various sources which have inspired me and helped me in the recovery process.  My intent is to keep adding verses and quotes to this section as I come across new material that in turn my inspire you in your own personal journey.

"Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible.  There is no glory for God in that which is humanly possible.  Faith begins where man's power ends."   -   George Muller

"Faith is not an instinct.  It certainly is not a feeling - feelings don't help much when you're in the lion's den or hanging on a wooden cross.  Faith is not inferred from the happy way things work.  It is an act of will, a choice, based on the unbreakable Word of God who cannot lie, and who showed us what love and obedience and sacrifice mean, in the person of Jesus Christ."   -   Elisabeth Elliot

I command you, be strong and courageous!  Do not be afraid or discouraged.  For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.   Joshua 1:9

"God's people have no assurances that the dark experiences of life will be held at bay, much less that God will provide some sort of running commentary on the meaning of each day's allotment of confusion, boredom, pain, or achievement.  It is no great matter where we are, provided we see that the Lord has placed us there, and that He is with us."   -   John Newton

I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.  Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.  The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.  Then I called on the name of the Lord:  "O Lord, save me!"  The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.  The Lord protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me.  Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.  For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living.   from Psalm 116

"Faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward of this faith is to see what we believe."   -   St. Augustine
